My undergraduate degree is in Educational Psychology, where we discussed learning theories and their various applications. In EDUC 5115/ 6115, I researched and revisited the ideas and concepts that helped propel me into my current career. As we come to the end of our coursework in EDUC 5115/6115, I can't help but feel grateful for the content and Dr. Artino. Considering the content, I had an opportunity to reflect on how I learn as an adult and attribute it to the learning theories we researched.  I have come to realize that the way I learn now is a mix of andragogy or adult learning theory and connectivism. I learn a good amount from my networks which attributes to a diversity of knowledge in different things. I use the thoughts and ideas from my networks to challenge my own thinking around things.   REFLECTION: Currently, in EDUC 6115, we are learning about connectivism. This theory states that one of the ways we know is by our personally constructed networks. I wanted to see what my personal network looked like, so I created a mindmap on Coogle. I tried my best to list out all of the "inputs" that allowed learning to occur. Looking at my mindmap, I noticed that learning new information depends on the category in which I need to obtain the material. It may be because I am an adult now and resources like time, engagement, and focus are limited, but now my learning is very compartmentalized. My network has changed how I learn by creating these different spaces to put various knowledge topics. One area is for my current profession as a teacher, which may require knowledge around classroom management, lesson planning, etc... Week 2: Understanding How the Brain Processes Information EDUC-6115 Joshua Moore This week, we explored the ways in which the brain processes information. We have information coming into our brains from various sources and through various inputs such as our eyes, ears, nose, tongue, hands, etc. Our brains collect and sort all of this information often without us realizing it as neurons fire and send information from synapses to synapses, triggering a response based on the information received. I spent some time exploring learningscientist.org and I got a better understanding of the brain. I also got a chance to read the blog post " All learning is brain learning" , by Cindy Woodridge (2022)  where she makes the argument that as we learn, our brain changes and the effects of sleep on the brain. Her blog post focused mostly on research on sleep, however, she does describe the relationship between neurons and synapses and shares a really awesome resource to a 3D model brain!   ...

Hello! My name is Joshua (please, call me Josh) Moore. I am a 7th-grade math teacher at a local middle school and currently an instructional design student at Walden University. My path to instructional design started with my interest in blended learning and technology in the classroom. My interest in blended learning led me to Instructional design.
