Week 7 Assignment 1: Learning reflection

My undergraduate degree is in Educational Psychology, where we discussed learning theories and their various applications. In EDUC 5115/ 6115, I researched and revisited the ideas and concepts that helped propel me into my current career. As we come to the end of our coursework in EDUC 5115/6115, I can't help but feel grateful for the content and Dr. Artino. Considering the content, I had an opportunity to reflect on how I learn as an adult and attribute it to the learning theories we researched. I have come to realize that the way I learn now is a mix of andragogy or adult learning theory and connectivism. I learn a good amount from my networks which attributes to a diversity of knowledge in different things. I use the thoughts and ideas from my networks to challenge my own thinking around things. Connectivism is a theory of learning in which learning occurs within a social network that has been influenced by technology. Social networks that are connected to technology include Facebook, Twitter, TicTok, and other similar sites where people can share content. Another aspect of my learning is the Adult learning theory of Andragogy. Andragogy includes principles that are basically intrinsic of learners such as self-concept, readings, the orientation of learning, and motivation. In essence, I as an adult learner must want to learn and be able to apply what I have learned to implement some fundamental change in my life. Since I am influenced by both Andragogy and Connectivism, it makes sense that technology is the major driver of my learning. I attend graduate school at Walden University online, I study and complete my assignments online, I use various search engines and post to blogs. Technology has enhanced the way I learn and produce work.
